A collection of petitions, viceregal decrees, fiscal's statements, and related documents from Mexico, and a few from the Philippines, recording ex parte proceedings in cases which were brought before the Viceroy of New Spain during the period 1801-1811 and which involved a wide variety of subjects, such as taxation and tithes, land ownership and exploitation, conduct of public officials, ecclesiastical expenses, treatment of Indians, construction projects, execution of wills and contracts, et cetera.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
